This week I visited Heavenly Finest Deli, located just steps from NYU’s D’Agostino Hall. They’ve been relying on their Waring CTS1000B conveyor toaster to serve hundreds of customers daily — until it suddenly gave up.



Problem

Omar, the owner, mentioned that the machine wouldn't run and smelled slightly burnt when plugged in. I took a closer look and quickly noticed the culprit.

The plug had been scorched, likely from repeated overload or poor contact with the outlet. This explained the inconsistent power and the potential hazard it posed.

Repair Process

Once the unit was opened, I also found the motor assembly was completely seized. The internal rotor wasn’t turning at all — a classic case of mechanical fatigue from years of use.

We replaced the old motor with a fresh motor assembly, secured all screws, and tested it for smooth operation.

After that, I installed a brand-new 208V plug, properly grounded and rated for commercial kitchen use. All connections were double-checked, and the machine passed power tests without any issue.

Lastly, I cleaned the cooling system internally to prevent future overheating and ensure safe, efficient operation.

Maintenance Tips for Toaster Longevity

To keep your Waring CTS1000B running smoothly:

  • Vacuum or air-blow the cooling vents at least once a month

  • Periodically check the plug for signs of melting, discoloration, or cracking

  • Don’t run the toaster continuously during off-peak hours — give it breaks

  • Never wrap the power cord too tightly around the legs — it weakens the connection over time
