Introduction.
On July 15, 2024, Market in Manhattan contacted us with a problem with the Printing Scale. The problem was that the barcode on the printed label was not being read by the scanner at the POS. The delivery team picked it up after 12:00 and arrived at our office around 3:00.

I did a check print and there were fine white lines (scratches) on the barcode and wide white lines on the Total Price as shown in the photo below. If there is a torn piece of label on the printer head, sometimes the whole label will not come out, but this was a bad scratch on the printer head. In the photo below, you can see the white lines (scratches) on the barcode location(barcord is not shown) and the left side of the Total Price. You can easily see the thicker white line (Big Arrow) on the left side of the Total Price, but you may not be able to see the thinner white line (Small Arrow) on the left side. The reason why the scanning is not working properly is because of the white line that is not visible. The barcode is in that area, and if the white line overlaps the barcode, it will not scan. The only option is to change the printer head.

This black ink is from when the printer head fired the laser at the labels, and the heat melted the black ink on the labels and stuck to the printer head. Over time, and with each label printed, the ink sticks and hardens. There are many ways to scratch the printer head, but the most common is when melted ink from a low-quality label gets on the printer head, builds up, and then scratches the printer head when it comes off.

I have been dealing with this store for more than 15 years, and I have mentioned this problem often, but even though the manager understands the situation, the boss does not want to change the labels, so I told that the situation of changing the printer head will always happen in the next one or two years.

The label shown above is a Custom Label. In the case of franchise stores, many custom labels are made for the branding of the company. Of course, our company also creates custom labels. The above labels are not made by our company. Just like Custme labels, there are regular labels of various origins on the market. All we can say is that the best precaution is to use a Made in USA label, even if it costs more. Of course, a Made in USA label doesn't mean it's 100% problem free. I guess the analogy is the difference between having a safe car with good tires or an unsafe car with cheap tires.

In the case of the printer head above, we suspect that it was caused by the use of a bad custom label. Sometimes, customers ask us straightforwardly, “Why are your prices so high?” Even when we explain the problems mentioned above, most bosses don't understand. We have several importers who approach us to sell their labels, so we have a rough idea of the prices. But since we sell and repair scales, we know how much of an impact labels have on the life of a scale, so we don't deal with low quality labels. Check Print를 해보니 아래 사진과 바코드 부분에 미세한 하얀 라인(스크레치)와 Total Price 부분에 넓은 하얀 라인이 있었습니다. 프린터 헤드에 찢어진 레이블 조각이 있으면 그 부분이 통째로 안나오기도 하는데 이것은 프린터 헤드에 스크래치가 심하게 난 상태였습니다. 아래 사진을 보시면 바코드 부분과 Total Price 왼쪽 부분에 하얀선(스크레치)를 보실 수 있습니다. Total Price 왼쪽에 약간 굵은 하얀선(Big Arrow)은 눈에 금방 보이는데 왼쪽의 얇은 하얀선(Small Arrow)는 잘 안보이실 겁니다. 스캔이 제대로 안되는 것은 잘 보이지 않은 하얀선 때문에 그렇습니다. 저 부분에 Barcode가 자리 잡는데 바코드에 하얀선이 겹쳐지면 스캔이 안됩니다. 어쩔 수 없이 프린터 헤드를 바꿔야 합니다.

La razón por la que el escaneo no funciona correctamente es por la línea blanca que no es visible. El código de barras está en esa zona, y si la línea blanca se superpone al código de barras, no se escaneará. La única opción es cambiar el cabezal de la impresora.
